2024: Books Not Booze
2024 marked a huge shift in perspective for me. When I moved back to SF, I decided I was going to take up reading full time - which meant reading several books a week, not just one book every few months.
In deciding to cut out bad habits and insert better ones, I felt personal growth on a level that vibrates on a completely different level. I started seeking answers instead of mindlessly going through life expecting experiences and wisdom to fall on a platter. I started valuing knowledge and time commitment more. I started gaining strength in areas that needed improvement.
I was a part of two book clubs, one in NYC and one in San Francisco. This helped me stay committed to the task of reading.
The books I read ranged from Thriller to Fiction to Self-Help books. The phrase "don't judge a book by it's cover" rang true - I used to pick up books depending on how it appealed and interested me, now I read then judge.
I think everyone needs a hobby that keeps their minds active. Instead of seeking outside pleasure, I became much more content curling up with a book with my dogs this cold, rainy winter.
If you are a fellow book reader, let me know if you have any recommendations! I would love to hear them.
