New Year New Haircut ~ Feel Good Thangs
I haven't gotten a haircut since 2021 when I went to this salon in the UES - with a Groupon!!! I always liked myself with long hair and decided to grow it out.
However, after 3 years of no haircut, I decided to finally chop it all off! It was weighing on my life - I felt the weight of not only the hair but all the years of baggage hanging down my back.
I also play sports every day and it's been raining so I needed to upkeep it more. That's really hard when you're a busy gal like me so a haircut really was the best option.
I hate paying for anything especially for hair related things so I went to Best Hair Cut on Taraval Street. There was nobody there - good indication - and the lady took cash only.
But despite the looks of the salon my stylist was super sweet. She took the time to comb out my nasty, wet, dead hair, made jokes with me the whole time, and gave me the best advice: "You're young! Go do anything! Just don't get caught!"
I learned she was from the Philippines and her whole family is still over there and she has a niece who is a nurse. She was super understanding and she pretty much did whatever I told her to - which not many stylists do. I like having control over my own hair and this experience was wonderful. She was gracious so I paid the $35 + $5 tip, thanked her, and left. It took less than 40 minutes.
Unfortunately in many other salons I am positive I would've gotten a lecture from them on my hair is not what I need. I am not paying you to complain or parent me I am paying you to do the dang job! I am so over diva stylists and so glad I went with this mom and pop shop.
I went to volleyball and an apartment tour later that night feeling lighter in spirit and just healthier and younger. I came up with all these styles to do with my hair and it felt great.
Here are some of the tips to maintaining your hair.
1. Getting a Trim Every Month
2. Don't Overdo it with Styling Products and Heat Tools
3. Go with Your Gut Instincts
4. Wear a hat on bad hair day
5. Find a Stylist/ Salon you like
6. Shampoo and condition at least 3x a week
7. Dry Shampoo is not real shampoo.
Thank you for reading! I will keep you updated on my hair journey. Feel free to share tips as well as I am not an expert by any means.
